I’m Back! (Again)

This space has served so many purposes for me over the past 4 years… When I first started it up in April 2009, it was just a good way for me to share my thoughts on the Giants. I soon started using Twitter for that purpose, and I relegated this blog to helping me set up Twitter meet-ups and share things that wouldn’t fit in 140 characters. For a brief time in 2010, I used this blog to share podcasts I created to tell my random stories about the Giants. It also ended up being a great place to compile recaps of Giants-affiliated players in fall/winter leagues from 2009-2011. I don’t think very many people actually ever looked at those recaps, but it definitely helped me in my own following of those players when not many others were. And now, its new purpose for the time being will be a place to consolidate all my little Giants tidbits that are currently scattered over the Internet. I have interviews and video footage of players on YouTube, photos on Facebook, documents and spreadsheets on Google Drive, etc. and I’ll try to keep them all easily accessible here. I don’t much enjoy the actual writing part of blogging anymore, so don’t expect to see much of that on here unless I’m providing an explanation for one of the other items I’m posting. Anyway, let’s see how long I can keep this going! 🙂

SF Chronicle Newspapers

Last edit for real (11/8): I went on my last newspaper run today, and I’m not getting any more. Unfortunately, they didn’t have any of the “VICTORY IS SWEET” papers from 11/4. So if you want one of those, or any other newspapers that you didn’t already request from me, you’ll have to go here. You should hear from me shortly on how much you owe me and how to pay me.

Hopefully last edit? (11/7): I’m gonna try to get one more newspaper – the one from after the victory parade, cause there’s a lot of great pics from the parade. It’s 11/4 and the front page headline says “VICTORY IS SWEET”

One more edit (11/7): I found this, which is a way to get papers from the Chronicle directly. I don’t know if they have the special editions. If you only want 1 paper, or if you live in SF, it’s probably cheaper to go there. Just to let you know. But if you want a bunch and don’t live in SF, then it’d be cheaper to get it from me cause I only charge shipping once.

Edit (11/7): I’m probably going to make one more newspaper run sometime this week. If I get enough demand, I’ll get copies of today’s paper (Sunday 11/7) with the really nice special section that kind of sums up the great moments from the season. If I get those, then I’ll also try to get more of the other ones. So if you haven’t filled out a form, or if you want more, then fill one out. I don’t have a set deadline because I don’t know when I’ll go, if I do. So just fill one out as soon as possible. Thanks! I’ll let you know later this week if I’m able to get your newspapers or not.
Edit (11/4): Now available is also the $2 Chronicle Extra with “BELIEVE IT!” on the front page.

Anyone can fill out a form, not just people who have asked for newspapers before.

Please fill out a form before Saturday morning (11/6). Previous times I went to pick up newspapers, I got extras just in case. This will be my last time picking up newspapers, and I will not get any extras. So if you haven’t filled out a form by Saturday morning, even if you asked for newspapers before, I probably won’t have one for you.

This whole newspaper thing is getting crazy, and I don’t have that much time to deal with it. So, we are starting over. If I promised you any newspapers but haven’t given them to you yet, pretend like I haven’t promised you the papers at all. I DO have it recorded somewhere so I DO have them saved for you, but it’s getting really complicated, so to make it easier on me I’m just starting over.

If you want any SF Chronicle newspapers, please fill out this form:

I really don’t mind getting the papers for you guys at all, I actually enjoy it a lot. The hard part is just keeping track of 30+ people’s requests, coming in different forms (text, email, twitter reply, direct message, etc.), that’s all.

Back to last year’s project… Giants in the Fall/Winter Leagues

Updated: 10/26/2010

Last year, I tried to make updates every night of how the players in the Giants organization did in the Fall/Winter Leagues, since it’s hard to get all that information in one place. Well, I kinda only kept that up for a couple weeks. All the info is so scattered, it takes forever to put it together! So this year, since the Giants are actually in the postseason, I’m going to have even less time to try to do this… but I’m still going to try! 🙂 I barely remember how I did this last year, so I’m just going to copy the blog entry I used last time and edit it to have this year’s info…
So now that the Major League baseball season is officially over, it’s time for the Arizona Fall League and the Caribbean Winter Leagues. It’s a little hard to get information about the Giants in these leagues all in one place. Someone on Twitter (@SFG1ants) suggested to me that I could link to some sort of a nightly recap of how the Giants players did that day. Sounds like a good idea to me! Every night I’ll try to write an entry summarizing what each of the Giants players did, and use the “Giants Fall/Winter League Recap” tag. I’ll start with which Giants I know of that are playing in the Fall/Winter Leagues, and some links. Pretty much all my info is from this site. Feel free to let me know if you have any more information! 🙂
